Katy Perry Scores Sixth No. 1 Pop Songs Single

.

Katy Perry has officially set another charts record. The pop star’s latest single, “The One That Got Away,” is currently No. 1 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart.
.

Now, this is not quite the Billboard Hot 100, which is the big gun when it comes to measuring pop single success, but it marks a milestone nonetheless. “The One That Got Away” is still on at No. 5 (it peaked at No. 3) on that chart, meaning Perry’s knockout album Teenage Dream remains tied with Michael Jackson’s Bad for the most No. 1’s from any album (five so far). But reaching No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart means that Perry is so so close to beating Jackson’s record. Joe Rainey, VP/pop promotion and marketing at Perry’s label Capitol, told Billboard, “This is not just a milestone for Katy, it’s a feather in the cap for pop radio.”
.

Earlier today Perry tweeted, “YES! We’ve only just begun…” in response to producer Dr. Luke’s tweet, noting, “Grats for gettin 6 #1 pop radio songs in a row KP!”
.

As for the record setting, Perry has now had eight total songs on the Pop Songs chart throughout her career. Which means she now surpasses Lady Gaga, P!nk and Britney Spears, who have each only had seven. Which is pretty crazy if you consider how long Spears has been around. Now Perry just needs to beat Rihanna, who has had nine, for the most No. 1’s in the chart’s 19-year history. This actually seems possible despite Rihanna’s great pop success as Perry plans to re-release Teenage Dream with additional tracks later this spring.
